MURFREESBORO,
Tenn. – The Middle Tennessee State University Blue Raiders women’s basketball
team defeated Ole Miss on Nov. 22 at Murphy Center Complex, ending their losing
streak and earning their first win of the season.
The
Blue Raiders fell behind in the first quarter with Ole Miss pulling ahead by
two points. In
the second quarter, they made a comeback. They scored a total of 16 points, and
Ole Miss scored five, bringing the score up to 27-36 MTSU.

In
the third quarter, the Blue Raiders stayed ahead. They scored another 29
points, while their opponent scored 18, making the score 45-65. MTSU led by 20
points.
In
the fourth and final quarter to victory, MTSU scored only 19 points while Ole
Miss scored 30, but MTSU still came out ahead. The final score of the game was
75-84, with MTSU pulling out their very first win of the season.
Point
Guard Brea Edwards performed her first double-double of the season. She scored
24 points through the course of the game.
Ole Miss Head Coach Matt Insell compared her performance to a car race won by Ty
Petty.
“She got everybody else shots and made everyone on her team better, and that’s what a point guard is supposed to do,” said Insell.
“This
was the first women’s basketball game I’ve ever been to,” said Nate Mitchell,
an MTSU student. “It was a lot more action packed than I had anticipated, and
those girls have amazing skills.”
Other
players who contributed to the win were Olivia Jones, who scored 17 points; and Abbey
Sissom, who scored 15 points.
MTSU
is currently 2-3 this season and scheduled to play the University of Kentucky
at Murphy Center Complex on Dec 13.
