MURFREESBORO, Tenn.—Middle Tennessee State University men’s basketball team traveled to Tennessee State University on Nov. 21 to take on the TSU Tigers and left with a 69-66 win.
A total of 1,500 fans cheered after the Blue Raiders’ hit
their first basket within the first minute of the game. The team never looked
back and kept the lead for most of the game with only six lead changes and five
ties.
Guard Giddy Potts
led the Raiders with 21 points, scoring 19 in the first half. Guard Quavius
Copeland and Forward Darnell Harris also played a role in the Raiders’ win with
both finishing in double figures.
TSU kept fighting and took the lead briefly, 19-18, after
a couple of unanswered baskets from the Raiders. After TSU’s six-minute run,
the Raiders finally woke up and took back the lead after hitting a three-point
shot. TSU would not take the lead again until nine minutes left in the second
half.
The Raiders started cold in the second half, letting TSU
bring the score to within three points of the lead. TSU went on to take the lead,
but only until the Raiders’ next possession. Both sides played back and forth
for a while until the score was tied with under three minutes to go. The Raiders
went to the free throw line with less than a minute left in the game and took
the lead by three, which led to their victory.
The Blue Raiders, who are 1-1,
will be traveling to Alaska for their next game on Thanksgiving Day. For more
