MTSU CRUSHES NORTH TEXAS IN FINAL HOME GAME

By Everett Dunlap
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — The Middle Tennessee State University football team defeated the University of North Texas on Nov. 21, honoring 28 seniors, saluting the service men and women of Murfreesboro, and securing a bowl game opportunity.
The Blue Raiders’ 41-7 victory closed out their home season. The game marked the last game for 28 MTSU seniors this season. Before the game, the friends and families of the players cheered as the men rushed into Floyd Stadium for one last time.
The game was very one-sided with MTSU handily defeating the Mean Green. Some of the top-ranking seniors that were honored were Jordan Frost- Dixon, Jordan Parker, Trey Wafford, and Kevin Byard. One of the most memorable moments was when senior safety Kevin Byard had his 18th career interception, setting a school record.

“He is a leader on and off the field, and it was big to see him accomplish his goals,” said William Beaird, one of Byard’s backups at the safety position.
The game was also there to commemorate all of the service men and women in the Middle Tennessee area. The sound of sirens could be heard with the fireworks after each MTSU touchdown, harking to the much-needed duty those individuals fulfill.
The victory brought the team to six wins and five losses, making the Blue Raiders bowl-eligible. The team received an invitation on Nov. 24 to the Popeye’s Bahamas Bowl on Dec. 24 against an unannounced opponent from the Mid-Atlantic Conference. The game will be held in Nassau, the capital of the Bahamas.
"This is a unique bowl and a tremendous location, so we can't wait to get down there and enjoy the experience,” said MTSU coach Rick Stockstill in a press release from the school.
