Tenn.-- Middle Tennessee State University award-winning gospel choir,
Generation Of Praise, held annual auditions for the 2012-2013 school year on
Nov. 21 at the First Baptist Church on East Main Street.
MTSU
has been commended nationwide for its “second to none” music program. Some 75 percent of recording industry
music majors have walked across the stage and received a small performing or
production job within five months of their graduation date, according to a recent
2011 graduate, Sequoia Hanneman.
Current
choir President Bethany Paschal assessed the mixture of incoming freshmen,
transfer students, and returning upperclassmen as they stood before the
executive board and auditioned.
Every student came with a prepared song, student identification, and fall
semester schedule. Alumni members were also present to determine if a candidate
was able to blend vocals with other singers by doing various harmonizing
exercises. This would greatly affect the status of the new singer.
Generation of
Praise is not only a gospel choir but a “giving” student organization.
“We plan to give
back to our campus and provide a safe atmosphere for any religious and/or physical
background,” said executive board member Gregory Clay.
The
choir is underway, with 95 members strong. It plans to accomplish a lot this
year.
“I’m looking to gain musical experience and networking
opportunities through GOP,” said new alto Sherron Crenshaw.
The
choir will be busy in December performing at various holiday gigs. Its annual
spring concert will be announced soon.
