MURFREESBORO, Tenn. -- The 19th
annual “Art Studio Tour” exhibited a variety of art created by Tennesseans on
Nov. 18 on East Main Street in downtown Murfreesboro.
Another year of the wonderful
journey on the “Art Studio Tour” provided an opportunity to experience the
creations of local artists, including Elizabeth Bray and Matt Alexander. Bray is known as a doctor by day and
creative artist by night.
Alexander is the Southerner on a mission to create all things
Southern. Together they displayed
some of Tennessee’s most interesting art.
Bray and Alexander
exhibited their art in Bray’s jewelry store on East Main Street. Bray is a doctor who creates
handcrafted jewelry. The artist says she enjoys making jewelry as a creative
outlet.
Alexander utilizes digital
craft and computer numerical control technology to make furniture at his office
and workshop on his family farm in Lascassas, Tenn. The artist focuses on neolocalism,
which sparked his interest in participating in the “Art Studio Tour”. He defines neolocalism as “the tendency
to lean toward local consumer goods as opposed to imported goods.” His art is a direct reflection of his
belief in neolocalism.
Bray
displayed flower rings, beaded earrings, wood bead earrings, enameled dog
necklaces, and so much more. Who
knew a doctor certified in Internal Medicine would have the time to be a great
artist who owns her own jewelry company?
She always refers to her handcrafted jewelry creation as “my creative
outlet.”
Bray has turned her creative
outlet into a jewelry company.
While touring Bray’s store, visitors could enjoy the work of Alexander
and his company, Holler Design.
“We focused on creating objects in spaces that are regionally
influenced and culturally significant,” said Alexander.
Holler Designs translates
Southern pride into the furniture by reinterpreting and recreating a romanticized
view of Southern objects.
The “Art Studio Tour” displaying the great talents of local
Murfreesboro artists as well as their guests from other Tennessee towns is here
to stay. Tennesseans should
definitely join in on the journey next year for the 20th annual “Art Studio
Tour”
